A sign permit grants the business owner permission to erect a {faq:1:sign} upon a property -- much like a building permit allows for a strucuture to be place on a property. A Sign Permit is issued, in accordance with the by-law for one or more signs. The signs approved under a permit can remain displayed for as long as they exist
You will need a sign permit at any point you wish to erect a new sign, move an existing sign or change an existing sign (including copy)
Yes.
If you are relocating a sign on the same property or to another property, you will require a new Sign Permit.
Why?
There are a number of factor that determine where a sign may be displayed, including:
- The number of signs already on-site
- The elevation of the sign
- The setback distance from a road
- The location of the property
No.
Older signs may have been approved under an older Sign Bylaw or erected without obtaining a Sign Permit. And: Changing any copy of any sign, including your own, requires a new Sign Permit
